Frauds and Scams
What's happening
Impersonation scams are on the rise. Fraudsters increasingly pose as legitimate firms — using real staff names, copied email signatures, and convincing-looking email addresses — to trick people into sending money to the wrong place.
We want you to know what to look out for, so you can stay safe.
The most common scams
Redirecting payment This is the most frequent one. Fraudsters monitor property transactions and other high-value cases — often using information that's publicly available, then send an email that appears to come from us, asking you to send completion funds or pay an invoice to a different bank account.
We will never change our payment details by email. Our account details are in your retainer letter and on your invoices. If you get a message asking you to pay somewhere different, do not act on it.
Intercepting invoices A fraudster may contact you claiming to be us, saying our bank details have changed and asking you to redirect a payment. Oour payment details do not change. Any email saying otherwise has not come from us.
What to do if something feels off
Trust your instincts. If you receive an unexpected message that appears to be from us — especially one involving money — stop and check before acting.
Call us directly using the number from your original correspondence or from our website. Do not use any number included in the message you're unsure about.
If you believe the communication was fraudulent, report it to Action Fraud:
