Accessibility
Our commitment
We want everyone to be able to use this website — whatever device you're on, whatever technology you use, whatever your ability.
We work to meet WCAG 2.0 Level A accessibility standards. These are guidelines designed to make websites usable for people who rely on assistive technology. They're built around four straightforward principles:
-
Perceivable — everything on the site can be seen, heard, or read
-
Operable — everything can be navigated and used
-
Understandable — everything is clear and behaves as expected
-
Robust — the site works reliably across different browsers, devices, and assistive tools
We review these standards regularly and have a working group focused on finding ways to keep improving. If you have suggestions, we'd love to hear them.
How the site is built
The site is built using modern web standards — HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript — and is fully responsive. That means it adapts to your screen, whether you're on a phone, tablet, or desktop.
Where possible, we use the native controls built into your device's operating system. These are already designed with accessibility in mind, and we only step in when there's a good reason to.
Text is sized in relative units, so you can increase or decrease the font size in your browser settings. We avoid using images of text except in rare cases (like a magazine cover).
Every meaningful image on the site has an alt text description. Decorative images are left blank so screen readers can skip them. No important information is shown using colour alone. We're also working to extend our use of ARIA labels across the site.
PDF documents
Some documents on this site are available as PDFs. You'll need Adobe Acrobat to open them — it's free to download from the Adobe website. If you use a screen reader, the Access Adobe website has tools and guidance to help.
A note on exceptions
We're always working to improve, but not every part of the site meets the same standard yet. Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time fix. As technology changes, we'll keep learning and updating to make sure everyone is treated fairly.
